For Corey Lyons, life has always been grounded in connection. Whether it was on the sporting field, in the classroom or around the dinner table, the influence of family and friendships has played a defining role in shaping who he is today.
His earliest memory of sport takes him back to a local oval around the corner from home, where his mum took him for his first Auskick session as a five-year-old. Dressed proudly in his St Kilda jumper, footy shorts and boots, it looked like the beginning of a dream. Instead, Corey ran off, climbed a tree, fell out and smacked his head on the ground. That was the end of that session, and there were plenty of tears.
Despite the rough start, sport soon became a central part of Corey’s life. From watching his brother play footy to going along to his dad’s cricket games, he quickly grew to love all things sport. He threw himself into every opportunity, thriving on competition and the lessons that came with it.
Just as important were the friendships he formed along the way. Corey has been fortunate to grow up with a close-knit group of mates who went through school together and are still a big part of his life. They continue to challenge and support each other, pushing each other to be better in all areas of life.
After moving away from home at a young age, Corey eventually found his footing in Brisbane, where he met his wife, Eliza. Now settled in Adelaide, their home life reflects the same warmth and balance that have always been important to Corey. Together with their dog Charlie, they enjoy time spent at home, especially when the footy is on. Eliza is a passionate Crows supporter and doesn’t hold back when watching a game. Poor Charlie gets a little scared when the yelling starts, much to Corey’s amusement.
Family and friends continue to be a grounding force in Corey’s life. They are the foundation behind his personal growth, the drive behind his ambition, and the reason he continues to bring connection and care into everything he does.
